The island of Puerto Rico is one of the areas most affected by natural disasters. The constant rains, hurricanes and earthquakes over the years have made it become a very fragile area. Tribe is a project part of a larger masterplan Quality of Fragility designed by SM_48 and Silvia Aloisio for the University of Florida and Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico which gathered three young Italian offices for three architectures: Lorenzo Guzzini for the project The Heart, Studio Spazio for the project Water Tower Observatory and Associates for project Tribe. Tribe, starting from this fragility seen as an opportunity and from the study of local spontaneous architecture, tries to create a prototype of accommodation: easy to build, respectful of the place and of the memory, and capable of regenerating itself every time starting from the founding trace of the staircase which, in the event of a calamity, represents a sculptural element in the landscape that suggests a new beginning.
